Three things worth knowing
The north–south split is bigger than you expect
In March, waves top 1.5 m on 94% of days at Puerto de la Cruz against 60% in Costa Adeje. Same island, same day, 40 km apart. It is why Puerto de la Cruz built a lido and the south never needed one.
The sea is coldest in March, not January
Water lags the air by a couple of months, and the whole annual range is only about three degrees. That narrow range is the actual reason the island sells winter sun — and the lag is why February and March feel colder in the water than the calendar suggests.
This picks a coast, not a swim
These come from a model grid point offshore of each beach. A sheltered bay behind a breakwater will be calmer than its number; a beach with an awkward shore break can be nastier on the same day. Use it to choose a coast and a month — use the flag on the beach to choose whether to go in.
