Since 19 January 2026 the summit permit is no longer free for visitors. It costs €15 for non-residents, €6 for other Canary Islands residents, and stays free for Tenerife residents and under-14s. There are 200 places a day, released every Monday at 07:00 Canary time, up to 56 days ahead.
What it costs
Approved by the Cabildo de Tenerife and in force since 19 January 2026. Two trails are affected: PNT-10 Telesforo Bravo (the summit itself) and PNT-07 Montaña Blanca (the long walk up).

How to actually get one
- 1
Register on Tenerife ON first
Registration is free and separate from booking. Do it before Monday morning — you do not want to be creating an account while the slots drain.
- 2
Be there Monday at 07:00 Canary time
New dates are released every Monday at 07:00, covering up to 56 days ahead. That window was 28 days until March 2026, so any guide still saying 28 is out of date.
- 3
Pick a two-hour slot
The paid window runs 09:00–17:00, split into 09:00–11:00, 11:00–13:00, 13:00–15:00 and 15:00–17:00. Your permit is valid only for the slot and date on it.
- 4
Bring the permit and the same ID you booked with
Printed or on your phone, plus the identification document you used in the booking. They are checked at the start of the trail.
Book on Tenerife ON — the official site
This is the only official channel, and it is free to register. We get nothing if you use it.
Four things that catch people out
One booking per person per 15 days
You cannot hold a second reservation within 7 days either side of your date. So you cannot block out several candidate days and pick one later — you get one shot per fortnight.
The cable car ticket is not the permit
They are bought separately, from different places. The cable car takes you to La Rambleta at 3,555 m; the permit covers the final 0.69 km and 160 m of climb to the crater at 3,715 m — about 45 minutes up. Plenty of people arrive with one and not the other.
Ice and snow mean mandatory equipment
The park can require specific equipment in icy conditions, and the trail closes outright in bad weather. A permit is permission to try, not a guarantee you will go up.
Dress for the actual temperature
In January the median at the top station is −4.5 °C, and one hour in ten is at or below −9.5 °C, before wind chill. We worked that out from ten years of hourly data — check your month and hour here.
What we could not confirm
- Whether staying at the Altavista refuge lets you summit before 09:00 without the permit. This is repeated all over the forums and we could not verify it in an official source, so we are not going to repeat it. Ask the park or the refuge directly.Refugio de Altavista —
- Whether the trail is open today. It closes for weather, sometimes for weeks. No page should tell you this from memory — check Tenerife ON on the day.
Fees and booking rules verified on 2026-08-09 against the Cabildo de Tenerife announcement and the Tenerife ON platform. The advance-booking window changed from 28 to 56 days in March 2026 — if you read 28 somewhere, that page is stale. If you find something here that is out of date, it is worth telling us: this page is only useful if it is right.
